There is nothing like that first moment when you know. I vividly remember the day my wife and I got our Boston Terrier puppy a few years ago. I was mourning the loss of a dear friend (affectionately nicknamed "The Boss"). My wife, ever sensitive to my wellbeing, knew that life without a dog was not the best thing for my soul. So we packed up the Jeep and travelled to meet with a couple that had a litter of Boston Terriers. When we arrived at their house we were welcomed inside where a slew of animals and children navigated throughout the home. There was an energetic spirit within the house and our entrance did nothing to alter the natural flow of their daily routine. Amidst this flurry of activity, one puppy notice our arrival and immediately came towards us. It was supernatural. Meant to be.
For days Melissa, Hanah and I tried to think of a name that would fit our new family member to no avail. It wasn't until we introduced our pup to some dear friends who were also mourning the loss of our friend "The Boss", when the name hit us. "Boston" or "Boss" for short. There were tears in our eyes as it dawned on us. "Boston" was the perfect name for this dog.
I see a similarity in my mom's story. My mother has been contemplating getting a new furbaby. After considering multiple breeds and rescue options, she built a level of trust with a Poodle breeder not far from her home. A smaller poodle would be perfect for Mom at this stage of life. Despite the breeder mostly breeding full-sized poodles, the last litter had one small female pup. The pup was so small, the breeder wasn't even sure if she would be willing to sell it. Over the following days of meeting with my mother and getting to know her needs and the kind of home she would provide for her new dog, the breeder began to think the smaller poodle would be a very good fit for my mom. Sure enough, the pup is healthy, small and exactly what my mother was hoping for. When considering names for her new pup, Mom was stumped. Then, looking at the breeder's website, she realized that poodle can be shortened to poo and Winnie is just a cute name for a female dog. So, Mom's new puppy is Winnie the Poo (pictured above).
So, what is your pet's name and how did it come to be?
